Two Day Introduction to Somatic Voicework

This weekend is London’s first exposure to Somatic Voicework™. The method has now been taught in several universities in the USA and Canada, in Australia and in Brazil. It is open to anyone interested in exploring an approach which is expanding rapidly and which has garnered rave reviews from almost all points of the globe. This workshop is run in association with Huw Geraint Griffith, Chris Hocking and Arts Educational Schools, London.

What Is Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method?

Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method was created in 2002 by Jeanie LoVetri to address the needs of contemporary songs. It is based upon multiple disciplines including traditional classical pedagogy, acting training, techniques adapted from Speech Language Pathology and many types of bodywork such as yoga, Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais work. It incorporates knowledge gained by Ms. LoVetri’s experiences with voice science and vocal health experts and with her explorations in humanistic psychology. It emphasizes a melding of science, pedagogy and artistic integrity, honoring both the music and the vocalist.

Somatic Voicework™ is simple, but not simplistic; it is precise but not rigid; and it is comprehensive and always adapting to new information as it becomes available. Somatic Voicework™ is an elite training for serious singers and teachers of singing and rests on openness, trust, and honesty while it strives to help every singer and teacher be vocally and emotionally free to create whatever is desired. It uses no manipulation of any structures within the throat or mouth and develops increased aural and kinesthetic awareness.

Ms. LoVetri has been teaching for 46 years and has sung a wide range of repertoire including classical literature as a lyric soprano, music theater, jazz, pop, light rock and improvisational free-form music. Her students have appeared on and Off-Broadway in leading and supporting roles, on TV, and in many of the world’s great venues including Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York. They are award-winning vocalists in jazz and contemporary music, but she has always also taught non-professionals who sing in community choirs of all kinds, in church or synagogue, or just for fun. She is a Singing Voice Specialist who has worked at New York City’s Mt. Sinai Medical Center, re-training singers who are recovering from injury or illness and has extensive experience working with professional and amateur children both individually and in a choral setting.
